What God Did Today #2

Even if it was almost lunch hour, Katipunan Ave. wasn’t too crowded. We made it to Plaridel Hall and got the papers I need before the people working there went out for lunch break. Thank you Lord!

20 Excuses Filipinos Use in Order to Justify Our Society’s Failure

Why wouldn’t our country succeed? Here in this article are excuses often used to “justify” our society and its failure to improve. It explains why these excuses are just excuses and how to have a different view on the problems our country faces.

I do not agree with 100% of the content of the article, but I do agree with it a percentage big enough for me to link it.

What God Did Today #1

God’s wonders happen everyday. Sometimes, even most times, we’re too busy or too caught up with our problems to notice them. It’s nice to just stop and sit; leave whatever you’re doing, and reflect and appreciate what God has done for us. You’ll start noticing how present God is in our lives once we realized that even the littlest of things take place because God willed it too. You’re running late for work or class, and yet there are no cars in the streets; you flagged a taxi and refused to stop, only to see it break down or stall a few feet from where you’re standing; or you woke up late for an important meeting, only to find out it was cancelled, are just some scenarios where we can see how God is at work and in control of our life.

Starting now, I will try my best to take note of what God has done in my life each day. So whenever I feel down, or things don’t seem to go my way, I still have something to be thankful for.

What God Did Today #1

He revealed to me, through my aunt, that I already have money for tuition. Our family has been experiencing financial problems for quite a while now and one of the burdens is how the three of us would be able to enroll. I thank God for giving my father a very generous older sister that helps with supporting our schooling.

My father felt weighed down with the financial problems. But after hearing that my aunt will shoulder all the three of us’ tuition, I felt a sense of relief from everyone.

Thank you Lord for that wonderful news. Now my parents can sleep soundly.

P.S.

I just realized that my aunt’s given name is Generosa. That’s why she’s generous. Hehe.

People often think of Christian morality as a kind of bargain in which God says, ‘If you keep a lot of rules I’ll reward you, and if you don’t I’ll do the other thing.’ I do not think that is the best way of looking at it. I would much rather say that every time you make a choice you are turning the central part of you, the part of you that chooses, into something a little different from what it was before. And taking your life as a whole, with all your innumerable choices, all your life long you are slowly turning this central thing either into a heavenly creature or into a hellish creature: either into a creature that is in harmony with God, and with other creatures, and with itself, or else into one that is in a state of war and hatred with God, and with its fellow-creatures, and with itself.
Mere Christianity (1952)

I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’ That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic - on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg - or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of god: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronising nonsense about His being a great moral teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.
C.S. Lewis - Mere Christianity (via erby88)

A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell.

What Can We Learn From A Lion? Lessons About Christ from Lewis' Aslan

An excerpt from a dissertation of S.M. Wilcox about Christian values and lessons seen in one of the books of The Chronicles of Narnia, Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

“Do you know how hard I tried to find you? All you left behind was a letter, and I had no way to contact you! Did you want me to die of shock? Why did you make me become like this? Why did you turn me into this? All day yesterday my heart was distressed. It felt tight and was racing, like it was about to explode. I felt suffocated even though I was breathing! I felt so frustrated all day long! I thought I was going to go crazy! No matter how much I shouted, it didn’t make me feel any better! But seeing your face now, I realized… I… missed you all day long. I like you.” -Crown Prince Lee Gak, Rooftop Prince, episode 12

Julio Diaz has a daily routine. Every night, the 31-year-old social worker ends his hour-long subway commute to the Bronx one stop early, just so he can eat at his favorite diner.
But one night last month, as Diaz stepped off the No. 6 train and onto a nearly empty platform, his evening took an unexpected turn.
He was walking toward the stairs when a teenage boy approached and pulled out a knife.
“He wants my money, so I just gave him my wallet and told him, ‘Here you go,’” Diaz says.
As the teen began to walk away, Diaz told him, “Hey, wait a minute. You forgot something. If you’re going to be robbing people for the rest of the night, you might as well take my coat to keep you warm.”
The would-be robber looked at his would-be victim, “like what’s going on here?” Diaz says. “He asked me, ‘Why are you doing this?’”
Diaz replied: “If you’re willing to risk your freedom for a few dollars, then I guess you must really need the money. I mean, all I wanted to do was get dinner and if you really want to join me … hey, you’re more than welcome.
“You know, I just felt maybe he really needs help,” Diaz says.
Diaz says he and the teen went into the diner and sat in a booth.
“The manager comes by, the dishwashers come by, the waiters come by to say hi,” Diaz says. “The kid was like, ‘You know everybody here. Do you own this place?’”
“No, I just eat here a lot,” Diaz says he told the teen. “He says, ‘But you’re even nice to the dishwasher.’”
Diaz replied, “Well, haven’t you been taught you should be nice to everybody?”
“Yea, but I didn’t think people actually behaved that way,” the teen said.
Diaz asked him what he wanted out of life. “He just had almost a sad face,” Diaz says.
The teen couldn’t answer Diaz — or he didn’t want to.
When the bill arrived, Diaz told the teen, “Look, I guess you’re going to have to pay for this bill ‘cause you have my money and I can’t pay for this. So if you give me my wallet back, I’ll gladly treat you.”
The teen “didn’t even think about it” and returned the wallet, Diaz says. “I gave him $20 … I figure maybe it’ll help him. I don’t know.”
Diaz says he asked for something in return — the teen’s knife — “and he gave it to me.”
Afterward, when Diaz told his mother what happened, she said, “You’re the type of kid that if someone asked you for the time, you gave them your watch.”
“I figure, you know, if you treat people right, you can only hope that they treat you right. It’s as simple as it gets in this complicated world.”
